A huge thank you to Rich Mountain Conservation District for coming to CRES and providing our 4th-grade students with an engaging Arbor Day presentation! We appreciate James Jacobs and Argus Floyd for taking the time to teach our students about the importance of trees and conservation. The students loved the presentation and were especially excited to receive their very own trees to take home and plant!

At CRHS, Mrs. Lawrence’s personal finance classes compared the cost of purchasing fast food versus cooking the same thing at home. One student said, “It is insane how much cheaper it was to cook it at home.” Other students said, “I’m going to start cooking this at home because it’s cheaper and it tastes better. I can have this more often!”

Umpire High School Science classes ended the 3rd nine weeks full of hands on fun in preparation for the ATLAS test in April. Biology completed labs demonstrating photosynthesis and anaerobic vs aerobic cellular respiration and put it together in the Carbon Cycle game and tracing carbon atoms from their favorite breakfast foods. Physical science is investigating sound waves while 8th grade talks about light waves (and related phenomenon). 7th Grade is also investigating the carbon cycle but discovered why the biodome experiments in the 1990s failed (not enough decomposers to release the trapped carbon dioxide). There will be a lot more hands-on learning to continue after spring break and into the end of the year!

Umpire Elementary would love to thank Ms. Wilson for all of her hard work with the art students! Their incredible artwork is lining the halls of the elementary, with a special focus on Georgia O’Keeffe. Students explored her unique style and bold use of color, bringing their own creative interpretations to life. Thank you, Ms. Wilson, for inspiring our young artists! What a great day to be a Wildcat!
